How to elevate your Master Bedroom in one easy change: Your Nightstands

Hey there friends!

Sorry for the long pause in posting - my sweet family and I were on VACATION! Quality time is so important and we had a great time. Also, I am so rested and ready to jump back in!

Hot tip time – how to elevate your master bedroom in one easy change: your nightstands. Unless they are chests or nice and tall, they are too small and most likely making your room feel not quite right.

As designers, our team never installs a master bedroom using standard nightstands. In fact, if it is labeled as a nightstand, we are very hesitant to even consider it for a master bedroom - and we immediately check the dimensions listed. We always use chests (or console tables if needed – more on that later). My design team and I consider an appropriate size for a master bedroom to be at minimum of 30”h+. The width can vary based on your bed wall length, but always nice and tall. On average, we use chests that are around 32-36”h x 32-42”w.  Another rule of thumb is that the chests generally give the room the personality. The bed and dresser may match or be similar, but you can have so much fun with the chests. Chests can be mirrored, adorned with pattern, a fun wood tone or painted finish, etc. Below are some examples from homes my team and I have designed. At the end, you’ll definitely want to visit my Source the Room page for links to some of my favorite chests to purchase!

Below is a space where I needed to save on budget and also feature more open pieces of furniture with layers for a more casual feel. I used console tables with baskets underneath. It is a fun option - the height and width however still give a grand, curated feel as opposed to standard small nightstands.

If you have a skinny room and cannot fit chests, try to still avoid a short standard nightstand. Below are some fun options that are skinny, but still tall and will give you a substantial look.
